Christmas is coming!

by admin on Nov.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

I am excited to announce that I will be at the Etobicoke School of the arts annual christmas craft show this coming Saturday! (november 21). I’m getting all my jewelry ready, buying nice displays, and pretty excited all around! It’s my first time in a craft/gift fair, so I think I’ll have fun no matter how I do. If you’re in the area, stop by booth 62

And now, for something a little different…

You’ve seen the photographs I take of my own beads.  I also enjoy taking pictures of wild life…fur and feathers get me going!  But I’m totally amateur.  I don’t know how/why I’m getting the results I’m getting… I set the camera to what works, and try not to change things.

Check out someone who KNOWS what they’re doing with a camera!  Her name is Julia Busato, and she runs “Raven Girl Photography”.  She can take a picture like no one’s business! Each picture captures a story or is just simply breathtaking.  I love her ‘people’ pictures.  She’s even taken a few of me!  I love them!

There’s a “readers choice contest’ happening right now, and if she is voted for the most, she gets to have a free ad placed in her local newspaper.  This would really help her out by making her business more public and recognized. Would you vote for her? Scroll through, until you come to the ‘photography’ section, and vote for “Raven photography” (they got her name wrong).  I think it’s on the 2nd or 3rd page or so.  So , sign in and vote!

I always wondered…

by admin on Apr.25, 2009, under Uncategorized

Schatzi, hiding

I’ve been watching a lot of Cesar Millan’s shows lately… it’s sort of become our family tradition (now, if we could only find the NEW episodes!) –and I always wondered how they got these families on their show!  Well… Now I know!

I guess they ‘audition’ for the show, just like any other show, but they don’t look for actors and dogs who can do things, they look for families with dogs that Cesar can help.  Like today, they’re holding auditions in Houston TX.    This is the info I have on it.

PRODUCERS FROM DOG WHISPERER HOLD AUDITIONS

IN HOUSTON, TEXAS ON SATURDAY, APRIL 25

Don’t miss your chance to meet with the producers of Dog Whisperer to audition to be on the show! Be prepared to describe your dog’s issue and bring video footage which shows the problem behavior to submit to the producers. Submissions cannot be accepted without a video.

Dog Whisperer is looking for a wide variety of dog problems, including unusual phobias, obsessions, fearful behavior, aggression, or any other unique situations that Cesar could help transform.

Dogs are welcome, but your dog does not need to attend to be considered. For safety reasons, the producers ask that you leave your aggressive dog at home. In order to capture footage of aggression, they recommend keeping the dog on a leash, behind a fence, or in a muzzle. Please do not put yourself or your dog in danger while trying to film the behavior.

SATURDAY, APRIL 25th

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

PETCO

22511 State Hwy 249,

Houston, TX 77070-1532

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

PETCO

2410 Bay Area Blvd, Ste B,

Houston, TX 77058-1520

Can’t make it to the audition? Submit a video application. In the video, we would like you to introduce yourself and your dog. Give us your name, age, and occupation, as well as the dog’s name, age, and breed. Tell us the problems your dog is having and how these issues are affecting your life. Also, let us know what you love about your dog. We would like you to capture at least three instances of your dog’s bad behavior.

For details on how to submit a video or for further information about the auditions, please visit http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/dogwhisperer/submissions.php

Cool!  I should start putting a video for MY dog together!  However… I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Cesar coming to Canada…

Tresses…

by admin on Feb.26, 2009, under Uncategorized

The mermaid lay on her rock, letting the sparkling lights from above lull her into a wonderful daydream. The ocean currents did their part by gently caressing her long tresses and spreading them out like a curtain…

He may want to suck a little blood, but it’s okay, he’ll only leave the teeeensiest of hickies.

He keeps cracking me up!

But I’ve put my dog on the treadmill!
What kind of dog you say? Well…. she’s a 3 pound(ish) Chihuahua named Schatzi.

Schatzi the Chihuahua

I always have problems in the winter because she hasn’t got a lot of fur, she *hates* any sort of clothes against the cold, and her little paws are way too small for any sort of boots to protect them from the snow and ice.  So, she mostly just lounges around.   UNTIL….. *drum roll* I started watching Cesar Millan and his “Dog Whisperer” show.  I just love that show, and wish he’d come help me be the right person for my dog.  I am working on it though, and so I tried my little dog on the treadmill so that she doesn’t have to sit and stew in wasted energy and be all cranky.

So, the first day, I put her in her pink Buddy Belt harness, and tried her on it. I had her hop up and down on the treadmill while it was off, and then when it was ‘humming’ but not moving.  She was all fine with that.  But when I wanted her to start walking, I could see that she wasn’t having any of it. She was practically crawling, low down and shaky.  I had an inspiration, and I switched her to a collar I had laying around (Because collars are all too large for her) –and while it’s too large for a real walk, it’s good enough to help ‘point’ her where she needs to focus.   Now, she’s on the treadmill like a pro!  The collar gives her a good reminder when she lags.  The halter would have thrown her off balance with the clip in between her shoulder blades.

Schatzi power walking

Oh, and here’s the kicker!  I twittered to Cesar Millan about it on twitter,  and lo and behold, out of the tons of tweets he probably gets, he wrote me back!
Thanks Cesar!  You inspire me to be a better person for my dog.

I’ll keep this short and sweet.

I know that sometimes the holidays can be really tough.
I hope that you’re okay.

Curvacious!

by admin on Dec.15, 2008, under Glass Chat, Uncategorized

I went to a party on Saturday night!  It was held right down the road from me, and was organized by the ladies at http://www.curvacious.ca.  It’s always a fun party.  There were vendors there and it was fun to be able to bop to the music and have a drink if you felt like it…and I got to know some people at the different tables!  Sales were slow, but when there’s a party in the next room, and Mr. and Mrs. Claus taking free pictures….I felt like packing up and just joining in!

I brought things like bracelets, pendants, of course, my little fairy grandmothers, and my many different and various pendants!  (All my bracelets are made to fit at least me.  I can make smaller sizes, but it’s easier to make ‘plus size’ bracelets because I can measure them on myself!)

My showcase item was a necklace, bracelet, and earrings set, with beautiful gold dichroic and red lampwork beads, swarovski crystals and vermeil findings.  I love the feel of it, and if I get to keep it the rest of my life… I wouldn’t be sad!  Here are some photos for you:

(By the way, if you make bracelets or necklaces, I can make beads like the one in the bracelet for 1$/ea!  Email me!)

Send me a comment!

Once the bracelet is complete, it’s going to become available!
