Simple Elegance…

by admin on Dec.11, 2009, under Available Now

I really REALLY love this necklace.  Beads like these are what got me into doing Lampwork.  The piece has a good weight to it, sits around your neck nicely and feels great!  There’s a touch of colour, but it’s not garish, and the volume of clear around it makes the necklace look light and fresh.  The findings are vermeil (gold plated silver), and it has been strung on thick 18k gold beading wire.

Christmas is coming!

by admin on Nov.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

I am excited to announce that I will be at the Etobicoke School of the arts annual christmas craft show this coming Saturday! (november 21). I’m getting all my jewelry ready, buying nice displays, and pretty excited all around! It’s my first time in a craft/gift fair, so I think I’ll have fun no matter how I do. Autumn, a fairy Godmother:

by admin on Oct.01, 2009, under Available Now, Fairy Godmothers

I have a lovely voluptuous winged Goddess on Ebay right now.
I made one like her a week ago, and got such an overwhelming response, that I recreated her.
The wonderful thing about this, is that each piece is unique! Especially when working with that nifty glass called “Raku”. It changes colour depending on how you treat it while in the flame!
Here she is, “Autumn”.

Mojo Mutation

by admin on Sep.11, 2009, under Glass Chat

So, Lately, my glass mojo has been ‘leaking’ out.  I’ve been making spacers, and pretty beads, but nothing new that I’d go “OOoooo” over.  So I tried a tutorial that I haven’t tried since I was a brand spankin new glass girl, and sooo excited because I had been eyeing this tutorial, and always wanted to try it.

So I allowed my mojo to mutate a bit, and I attempted another implosion.
Next time, I will be leaving the flowers off, they’re not that hot. :)   This is a Mandrel Wound Implosion bead.  YOu’ve seen implosions in boro pendants, in Marbles, etc, but this is with soft glass.  It involves a large disk bead, lots of dots, and lots of patience.  (I get my glass too hot, you can see how the implosions ’swirl’ around the mandrel…that’s ok, I LIKE them that way.  I also like my marshmallows burned and crispy.  Really!)

I think next time I will try silvered ivory dots.  I like how they implode.

Abundant Hope!

by admin on Aug.24, 2009, under "Hope"

I’ve gotta whole lotta Hope!
Pendants, that is.
And… okay, the real stuff too!

I’ll probably say this a lot, but:

Hope gives us strength to rise above the adversities of life and carry on.  What gives YOU hope?
Hope

I’ve been pretty busy making Hope pendants in every colour under the sun (Pink is coming…!).
I’ve written a bit of a write up, and have been listing them on my Etsy Site.  If you like, you can contact me with a colour you’d like to see, and I’ll make one for you!
Price: 50$, plus shipping.

Beadliner Discoveries

by admin on Aug.04, 2009, under Glass Chat

I had the fortune to have been asked to try out Nortels new Beadliner for a month or two.  I had been itching to get into lining beads!  I thought that it would be a nice new addition to my art.

It turns out not to be ‘my thing’–I love the look of a nicely lined bead, but I’ll continue ogling others.  Like Dwyn from Dragonjools… she’s done a lot with the Nortel Bead Liner!!  Check it out here, she’s done a step by step video!  Dragonjools Youtube Video

Fairy Godmothers

by admin on Jul.17, 2009, under Fairy Godmothers

I think it is a rite of passage for every glass worker to experiment at developing their own female nude sculptures.  Based on the fertility goddesses of different cultures, often they’ll be plump and very well endowed.  I have seen some artists that make goddesses that make me MELT with how lifelike and soft and fleshy they look.  Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I want to BITE them, sort of like how you sometimes have the urge to bite a balloon.  Uh… no? well.. um… moving on…

Here is my version of a “goddess”.  I put wings on mine (no haven’t developed a head or arms yet) –and like to call them “Fairy Godmothers”.  It’s more whimsical and fairytale like, and I enjoy the idea. You won’t ever watch Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella the same!

Check out my gallery to see more versions of my fairy godmothers!
I can custom make a Fairy Godmother for you for 30$ with your favourite colours…body and wings.  IE: Black body, blue wings…. I will include a chain so you can wear her right away!

Ribbon of Universe

by admin on Jun.24, 2009, under Glass Chat

I’ve been experimenting with Glass shards lately.  I know how to make them, however, I have no patience to practice and do them just right, and so I purchase delectable colours from Joe and Barry at Avenue Beads.  It’s been fun watching him make the shards during his webcam broadcasts for the last few months.  Also, they’re good people, those fellas.

Here are a few pictures of what I made with shards lately!  Shards are paper thin pieces of glass broken into pieces.  They’re made by blowing a bubble of glass, letting it cool, and then breaking it!  Yes. I pay money for broken glass!  Then you wrap the bead in the shard just barely touching the flame to it.  It will almost hug the glass as the heat melts it!  You can leave them raised (melting down sharp edges) or you can melt them right in flat.  These ones are melted flat, but still look like they’re raised!
